Cool summer reading
One is a business executive who helped save a historic town from being wiped off the map, while the other has had a varied career in dance, television news reporting and acting.
Charles Wagandt, who preserved the town of Oella on the Baltimore/Howard County line, and Maria Broom, who guest starred in the TV series “The Wire” and is currently teaching dance to Baltimore kids, don’t seem to have a lot in common.
But they both share their fascinating stories in the August issues of the Beacon’s Baltimore and Howard County editions.
If you get our Baltimore issue, you’ll see Broom featured on the cover. And if you live in Howard County, you’ll read about Wagandt. But they’re both so captivating, I wanted to let our readers know how to access both their stories online.
Read “Broom sweeps across stages” and “He bought a town to save it.”
And if you want more fun summer reading, take a look at our D.C. cover story on people over 50 who work at Six Flags America.
Here at the Beacon, we’re always on the lookout for older adults with intriguing stories. If you have ideas for people in the Baltimore, Howard County or Washington, D.C. areas you’d like to see profiled in the Beacon, please e-mail me at Barbara@thebeaconnewspapers.com.
