Generations Together at the Grammys
Did anyone watch the Grammy awards a few weeks ago on February 8th? It was a terrific show with many great performances. In fact, the performances were what stood out the most about the Grammys. Why? Because, my Generations Together project was making its debut there on live TV!
Let me explain: throughout the show, there were many performances where modern day singers were paired up with singers from older generations to sing musical numbers. Performers included Jessie J. and Tom Jones, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Hozier and Annie Lennox, and Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney. This, to me, was amazing because everything I supported in terms of the generations coming together was happening! All of the modern and older singers collaborated beautifully, and it was great to see them working together, learning about and appreciating each other’s styles of music.
This is a perfect way to advertise my Generations Together project to the world. The performances at the Grammys prove that when the young and old come together, they can do anything! They can also get to know each other and share knowledge.
But wait…there’s more! In an interview with singer Lady Gaga, she said about Tony Bennett: “So when I say ‘at this point in my career’, he’s changed my life for me because he’s gonna make my art better from this moment on. He’s teaching me all these life lessons, and I’m singing music I’ve loved my whole life. There’s no better music than the Great American Songbook. There just isn’t."Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett prove that when you spend time with the “opposite generation,” you not only learn, you become friends.
Follow the example of these multi-generational musicians and create something amazing together with a younger buddy who has similar interests based on what you both enjoy. You can play instruments together, sing, listen to music, and even sit down next to each other and watch next year's Grammys!
