New Patient Orientation
Welcome to Lesner Hearing Center. We are happy that you have chosen to visit us to learn about your hearing and the options that are available to improve it. Our initial comprehensive evaluation and consultation is a no-charge appointment.
We ask you to call your insurance company before your first visit and ask what benefits you have for hearing aids. Hearing aid coverage is a moving target, and whereas you may not have had coverage in the past, you may now have hearing aid benefits. We suggest that you call your insurance company and speak to a human rather than relying on a booklet or online information, and ask the following questions:
• What coverage do I have for hearing aids?
• How much reimbursement will I be allowed? How often?
• What is my deductible?
• Do I have to go to a particular practitioner to get this benefit?
• What will my reimbursement be for an out-of-network provider?
• Ask for a reference number for the phone conversation.
If you cannot make this phone call, let us know and we can help you get the information.
Not everyone who comes in actually needs hearing aids, nor do we twist your arm to purchase hearing aids. We teach you about your hearing and what can be done to improve it. Then you and your family will decide when it is right to move forward.
If you do purchase hearing aids, Lesner Hearing Center will provide you with paid receipts and HCFA forms that you will submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We do not process insurance in our office. All hearing aids are fit with a 60-day return/exchange privilege.
Because hearing aids range in price, you will be better prepared to decide what is right for you if you arrive knowing what your insurance covers. Many people are surprised to find they do have coverage for hearing aids.
We are in our 12th year of providing patients in Northern Virginia with the service they need so that their hearing aids perform as intended. We have been rated in Washington DC Checkbook Magazine with 100% User Satisfaction in unsolicited patient reports in their 2010 and 2013 reports. You will receive the attention to detail and chair-side manner you need to make your experience with us very positive.
We will call you the day before to reconfirm your appointment. If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know by phone or email as soon as possible so that we can help another patient in your time slot.

Hearing Aids
Basic digital hearing aids generally require the wearer to make some manual adjustments in certain listening environments such as turning a volume control up or down, or pushing a button to change listening programs. In contrast, a premium or more advanced hearing aid responds automatically to changes in the listener’s environment, making changes based on the signals being detected by the hearing aid. The hearing aid wearer is not required to make any manual changes. As the level of the technology increases in hearing aids, so do the availability of advanced features.

If you treat the hearing loss, you keep your brain exercised!
Dr. Leslie Lesner and Dr. Amy Bernstein will explore the demands you put on your ears, test you, explain the results, and recommend hearing aids that fit your lifestyle and budget. Many hearing aid users report that they were never taught about their hearing or strategies to use their aids fully. Not so at Lesner Hearing Center! Your hearing is unique. From selection to fitting and follow-up, they work with you to fine-tune the devices and the way you use them so that they’ll perform to your satisfaction. And that means a better quality of life! Hearing better is all about the service, not just the hearing aids.
“There is a wealth of hearing instruments and assistive listening equipment available today. We have to be creative in applying that technology to help people hear better in very difficult listening situations.”
